Every day is a challenge for dog owners. Some days they can be devils and some days they are the cutest things ever. A couple months ago I adopted a puppy named Gunner, a Curr/Chihuahua/I really don’t know mix, and he is 5 months old now. I also have a bigger dog named Colt, a Florida Curr, he is 1 year and 7 months old. Together they are relentless.
Ever since I adopted Gunner, Colt has been acting up. At first he was very jealous of the new baby but now he loves him and plays and puts up with him all the time. But in the beginning Colt would rebel and get into our trash while Will and I were gone. One day we came home and garbage was spread throughout our kitchen, dining room, and some of the living room. He also brought a chocolate ice cream container into his bed and licked it clean.
He had to stand in the corner as punishment.
Another time, my friend Mary and I were going to the beach and my two dogs were in the backseat with her dog. Gunner got underneath Colt and spooked him and colt scratched gunners face. He had a small cut on his face but we still went to the beach and he was fine. Three days later Will wakes me up and Gunner’s face was swollen as big as a golf ball on the side. Here is a picture of it when it swelled down a little. I ended up taking him to the vet and we had to open the scab and squeeze puss out, YUCK.
About a month ago I was cooking and peeling potatoes and turned around and there was blood drops all over the floor and Gunner’s mouth is foaming blood. I freaked out. After cleaning up the blood and wiping his face, I opened his mouth to see what it was that caused the blood and he just stopped bleeding. He acted like nothing happened. I’m pretty sure he just lost a tooth.
Gunner has a habit of getting himself into sticky situations. The other day he was chewing on a tire toy and actually ate some of the tire and strings inside it. He then puked all over and continuted to puke every two minutes for about an hour. I called the vet and they told me to come in right away. They gave him a shot and sent him home and he was perfectly fine. Here’s a picture of how he was sitting the whole time he was at the vet. Ha ha.
Dogs are always getting themselves into trouble and you really have to watch them. Luckily Gunner’s a trouper and Colt is very smart. I wonder what else they will get into in the future. Even though my dogs are little monsters, I love them to death and would not trade them for anything.
If you are looking to get a dog, you should really adopt from a shelter. Shelter dogs always end up being smarter from what I’ve seen. Check out the Humane Society’s website HERE.
