Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings

Cinnamon…sugar…chocolate…apples. If you just drooled a little bit then I have the perfect recipe for you. Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings are delicious. If you couldn’t tell, I love apples. My first post involved apples. You can do so many different things with apples it’s unbelievable. My most recent fav is this one though.

Fried Cinnamon Apple Rings

For the apple ring batter

  • Apples (I used 2)
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the topping

1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, and cinnamon in a large bowl.

Combine the egg and buttermilk in a separate bowl. Click here to see how to make buttermilk.

In another bowl combine the sugar and cinnamon for the topping.

Then you cut your apples into slices, like so. Make them about 1/4 inch thick.

Then you cut the middles out. I used a regular knife because I did not have a circular cookie cutter, but if you do then use that. You can also cut smaller rings out of the center of the big slices. Pat the rings with a paper towel to get excess moisture out.

Time for frying! Combine the first two bowls and this will be your batter. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan to 375 degrees (medium heat). Wait for the oil to get hot and then dip your apple slices into the batter then into the oil to fry. When they start to turn golden brown flip them. Then lay them on a plate covered with paper towels for a couple seconds then dip them into the cinnamon sugar topping. After they are nice and covered with cinnamon and sugar, lay them on a wire rack. Tip: only fry 2 or 3 rings at a time or else you will get overwhelmed.

Drizzle them with chocolate syrup and serve them while they are still warm.
