Yesterday was Gunner’s birthday!!! He’s 1! I can’t believe my little nugget is 1 already. It seems like just yesterday I was bringing him home at 2 months old from the Humane Society. Well since it was his birthday, I decided to spoil him. He is my youngest afterall. I bought him 3 new toys and made him a super yummy cake that even people can eat. I gave Gunner and Colt a few pieces of the cake to try and they went crazy over it. After we sung Happy Birthday to Gunner, yes I sang to my dog, I set the plate down for them both to eat and Colt decided to grab the whole cake and try to eat it all at once. We took it away after that and gave them smaller pieces. It is safe to say my dogs love this cake. I got the recipe from Saving by Design.

• 1 cup flour
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1/4 cup vegetable oil
• 1/4 cup peanut butter
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 1/3 cup honey
• 1 egg
• 1 cup shredded carrots

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix the flour and baking soda then all the other ingredients. I found it easy to shred the carrots by using a grater and holding it over a bowl. Once everything is mixed up, put it in a baking pan. I used a bread pan. Bake for 20 minutes, but check on it occasionally. It may need more or less time.

To get the bone shape I just used a knife and cut the shape out of the cake after it cooled down.

For the icing I just heated up a bowl of peanut butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds and then poured it over the cake and smoothed it out. Then I peeled some carrots and sprinkled the shavings over the peanut butter icing. I also put a small bone treat in the middle since Gunner was turning 1.

You could use banana but I don’t know how well it will stay on the cake. The peanut butter works because it’s sticky. But you could definitely try banana! Let me know how it goes! 🙂
