Since I am moving closer to the beach and have always loved the nautical vibe, I am doing a beachy vintage theme in my new apartment. My goal is to not buy any new decor or furniture. I am trying to use what I have and update everything. I already finished my dining room chairs seen here, and I am currently working on my dining table.
In my living room right now I have about 5 of these little round mirrors in different sizes hanging up. I was originally going to get rid of them but I thought of this nautical touch I could add to them.
What you need:
• Round mirrors
• White paint (I used a white chalk finish paint)
• Cotton rope (I get mine from here and used the 1/4 inch rope)
• Hot glue gun
The first step is to get your hot glue gun and your rope ready and start putting glue on the mirror frame. As you are gluing you need to press down your rope on top of the glue. The glue will dry fast so work quickly. Once you come to the end of the first rope circle, cut it and then glue it to the other piece where you started. Repeat this process to add as many layers as you want. I did 3 around.
Tip: I would suggest painting the mirrors first but I did it after.
Next I painted the black parts on the mirror white. I just thought the white made the mirrors that much more nautical. If you are not a good, steady painter then I would suggest putting painters tape around the glass of the mirror so that you don’t get any paint on it.
So there you have it, I took some cheap mirrors I’ve had for ages and gave them a new look. They look awesome and remind me of portholes. I can’t wait to hang them up in my new apartment!
Have you ever updated an old mirror?
