Valentine’s Day is coming, Valentine’s Day is coming! I am very excited for love day. It’s a day filled with kisses, flowers, and happiness. Some people resent V-Day because they don’t have a significant other. You don’t need a boyfriend or girlfriend to be able to enjoy Valentine’s Day though. The day is about spreading love to whoever you love. Whether it be your parents, siblings, or best friends, it’s a day dedicated to letting others know how you feel about them. Don’t get me wrong, I have had a few not so great Valentine’s days but you just can’t take the day too seriously. So what if you don’t get chocolate or that gigantic teddy bear you’ve had your eye on. Instead, give a little something to everyone you love and don’t expect anything in return. You don’t need to go all out. A gift from the heart can be something you made yourself. For this Valentine’s Day, I made my own strawberry and lemon sugar scrub to give to all my girls.
- 1 cup freeze-dried strawberries
- 10-15 drops of lemon essential oil
- 1 cup cane sugar
- 3/4 cup coconut oil (room temperature)
- Cute jars! (I got the mine from the dollar section at Target and just painted the heart lid.)
I got this recipe from Jamie over at TotallyTheBomb.com (How awesome is that url?!) I substituted lemon essential oil for the vanilla though.
Start by crushing the strawberries in a Ziploc bag. You can use a rolling pin, your hands, or an empty wine bottle (I may or may not have drank an entire bottle of wine and then used the bottle because I don’t have a rolling pin…) to crush the strawberries.
After the strawberries are crushed, mix them in a bowl with the sugar. Add the coconut oil next and then the lemon essential oil.
Once you have all the ingredients mixed together, you are done! That was super easy and quick, wasn’t it?! Now you don’t have an excuse for not having any time to make someone a Valentine’s gift. You can customize the scrub too. Instead of using strawberries, you can use raspberries or a mixture of berries. They have different kinds at Target. Instead of using lemon essential oil, you can use any other essential oil or vanilla extract. To personalize the jars, you can make some tags to put on them. Melanie from Reasons To Skip The Housework has some really cute printable tags you can use to put on your jars.
Regardless of if you give gifts this Valentine’s Day, just make sure to tell the people you love that you care about them and love them. And then tell them every other day of the year.
