The time has come to reveal my full boho tropical living room!! I’m so excited to share this part of my apartment with you all because I’ve worked so hard on creating a space that I love and genuinely enjoy being in. It’s taken me a while to get it exactly how I want it but I feel as though it is at that point now. I’ve made an effort to not include any accessories that don’t fit 100% with my theme and I think it really shows. Notice how there is zero red/pink/purple/etc. colors? That was done on purpose.
Sticking to a color palette actually makes decorating easier and in the end the whole room comes together. My color palette was blue (of course), grey, white, and beige. I stuck to materials such as wood, copper, and canvas fabric. I really love building with wood and refurbishing thrifted wood pieces and that shows. Overall, I wanted a tropical living room that revolves around the ocean so I used things such as a shell lamp, shark wall art, and ocean prints. I think I nailed the boho tropical living room theme, do you think so too?
This magical pad is from RugPadUSA. All of their products are made and shipped from their factory in Connecticut. I love companies that produce products here in the United States and prefer to buy from them over other retailers that don’t. RugPadUSA’s mission is to offer high quality, sustainable alternatives to imported plastic rug pads that are usually loaded with chemicals. They currently sell through Amazon, Overstock, Wayfair, and their website so it is very easy to get your hands on one. On their website you can even shop by floor type or style, making it easy to decide which rug pad would work best for you. You put in the size of your rug and they custom cut it too.
Have a slippery rug? Get a rug pad. Need more cushion? Get a rug pad. I never thought I’d need a rug pad because they always seemed unnecessary to me but once I finally got one, I don’t know how we lived without one! Our rug is super comfortable to walk on now and I find myself laying on it a lot! It’s the perfect fix for thin rugs. I was worried you would be able to see the pad since it is thicker than our rug but you really can’t tell. It’s a 3/8’’ thick layer of urethane foam with Scotchgard’s Advanced Repel Technology, making for a plush and spill proof pad all-in-one.
DIY TIP #2 Buy two poufs and when they start to get saggy and look deflated, deconstruct one and cut along the seam of the other. Put the stuffings inside of the one you cut the seam on and then sew it back up. You’ll have a full, happy looking pouf! That’s exactly what I did for mine.
Accommodating for dogs in your home doesn’t have to be unstylish. I hate the ordinary dog beds that don’t go with anything. I like to provide spaces for my dogs that actually match my decor, while still being comfortable for them like my DIY teepee. Don’t worry I didn’t get rid of it, I just relocated it to my bedroom. For the living room, I have an old ottoman cushion that I covered with canvas drop cloth for Colt and a smaller cushion from Home Goods for Gunner. Although Colt mostly prefers to just lay on the rug and Gunner, the couch.
The view from our apartment is beautiful. We see the prettiest sunsets each night and watch the clouds during the day. I love the amount of natural light we get as well because it’s perfect for plants! I currently have a collection of basil, succulents, ferns, pineapple, and aloe. When I think tropical, I think plants so I wanted to include them to go with the tropical living room theme as well. When choosing our apartment, I took into account which direction it would be facing so that I knew the amount of light we would get during the day and which direction the sunrises and sunsets would be coming from. It makes a difference, trust me.
