Wearing hats can make an outfit complete. They add that extra little touch OR they hide a bad hair day, whichever way you want to look at it. I love all types of hats, especially sun hats. Since it’s fall/winter though I like to switch it up and wear hats that are more geared toward the season.
The fisherman cap has been a pretty hot commodity this year and I’m not mad about it one bit. I love that greek fishermen back in the day wore them, it adds a nautical sense to them and I’m all about nautical.
As for how to wear hats/caps, I have some tips for you, my friend. Keep readin’ to hear my best ones.
Color Coordinate or Make A Statement
Either wear a hat that matches your outfit OR wear a neutral colored outfit and add a pop of color with the hat. Your hat can either compliment your outfit or make a statement of its own. If you want a fool-proof color, opt for black or light tan. Those are the colors of hats I tend to buy most of.
Braids, Braids, Braids
Is it just me or do all hats look cuter with braids? Up any hat with a pair of pigtail braids or one long braid in the back. I wore pull through braids in these photos. Curious as to how I did it? Watch this video where I show you how.
Tease Your Hair To Make It Fit
Hat too big? No worries! Just tease your hair to make it fit more snug. I’ve been using the Rootie The Rootlifter tool since it was given to me about a month ago to tease my hair and make it appear more thick. It also helps to make hats fit more snug. Just tease around the areas your hat will sit on your head. You don’t need to use any sprays or hair products to make it stay, it stays well on its own. No product build up is always great.
Above you can see the before and after of one clamp using the Rootie. The trick is to clamp pieces under the top layer of your hair so that they don’t show through. I have super thin hair and it gets very flat. Teasing can be my best friend.
TIP: If your hat is still too big, add in some hair extensions around where the hat will sit to add more volume. I actually used this trick in these photos since my hat was way too big and I really wanted it to fit snug and not fly off.
