If you didn’t already know, you can now save Instagram Stories for longer than 24 hours! You also get to choose cover photos for each highlight which is essential to making your Instagram profile being on-brand and matching the theme you want to portray.
The easiest way I’ve found to make the highlight icons are 1 of 2 ways. The first being the Canva app on your phone. They have an Instagram Story template where you can pick a pre-made layout or start from scratch. This is a great option if you want to use text as the icons because they have a ton of different fonts to choose from.
The second way is Picmonkey.com. Start by designing a 1080 x 1920 image. For some of my icons, I used the Picmonkey overlays. There are so many that can fit different topics but if you can’t find any you like, you can also search the web for “free icons” and then upload them into Picmonkey under the “overlay – add your own” feature.
To get the icons centered, click the alignment button on the bottom, second from the left. Then click on and choose a style of grid.
To get the icons on your story highlights covers, first upload the icon photo to your story. Then click the highlight button on the lower right when viewing the story. You can either then click add to new highlight or add it to an existing one. Then go to your profile and click the highlight and click “more” on the bottom right and then edit highlight.
Ta-da, you now have new highlight icons! If you don’t want to go through the trouble of making your own, I made 9 that you can use! Just click here to download them for free from my shop.
