Have you heard of microblading? If not, get with the times! Microblading is basically tattooed eyebrows to put it simply. It’s a semi-permanent tattooing technique to create hairlike strokes. When done right by an artist like Trish who I went to, it looks just like natural eyebrows.
The main thing you want to consider is who you are going to have be your artist. Really do your research on this part. Look at photos of past clients, check out their social media accounts, read their reviews, maybe even ask someone that has had it done by them what their experience was like.
Is microblading for me?
Do you suffer each day from filling in your brows and are SICK OF IT? Microblading is for you. Are you a natural blonde or have very light colored brow hairs? It’s for you. Do you have sparse areas of hairs on your brows? Get yourself some microblading!
How much does it cost?
Trish charges $600 for a consultation and the initial session and $100 for a touchup session after 4 weeks. Here is the thing, you don’t want to skimp when it comes to your face. I wouldn’t get microblading done for $200 because that is saying the artist may not be good. You pay for what you get. A better artist will likely charge more because they are more skilled and experienced. I suggest doing research before getting it done and looking at past work.
Is it worth it?
Helllllll yes. Having microbladed eyebrows has saved me SO much time every day. If I can cut a step out of my routine then I’m in, hence the eyelash extensions too. I feel more confident when my eyebrows look good so it was worth it for me.
Will it be too dark? Can it match my hair?
I have very light blonde hair. I’m a natural blonde but I also get highlights and my hair toned. I was not really worried about my brows being too dark because I liked to fill them in 2 or 3 shades darker than my hair. However, Trish mentioned that you want the microblading to match your hair, you can always make them darker by filling them in with makeup but you can’t make them lighter.
I went with the second lightest shade and I’m glad! It’s the shade she recommended and the match is spot on to my hair. They look natural and it’s very hard to tell my brows aren’t real hairs!
There are many different shades available so if you are worried about the match, don’t be!
Does it hurt?
Mostly no. Trish didn’t numb for the first few hairs so she could really get clean strokes and get a feel for how deep she needed to go. It didn’t hurt but it was a bit uncomfortable. After a few minutes, she numbs for the rest of the process and you can’t feel a thing. If it’s really hurting then your artist is doing something wrong.
How long does it last, though?
Usually 1-3 years but it can differ on different people. Being exposed to the sun or tanning will make them fade faster so make sure you put sunscreen on them whenever you go outside!
How long is the entire process?
This will depend on how much filling in your brows need. Mine needed a lot since I barely had any. Usually the process is about 3 hours the first visit and about 1 hour for the touchup. The entire process includes the artist measuring and drawing an outline for your brows on your face, numbing, tattooing, and cleaning up and that’s about it. The touchup is just numbing, tattooing, and clean up.
What is the healing process like?
For the first 7 days after you get your brows done, they might be itchy and flaky. This is completely normal, just like a regular tattoo. It takes about 14-21 days to be completely healed however. So the touch up is recommended 4-6 weeks after your first appointment. You’ll have to stay away from touching them, getting them wet, driving in open air vehicles, any chemical peels/facials, tanning, and sweating. You will have scabbing, and it’s important to not pick at it, just let it fall off on its own. Otherwise, you’ll be pulling out the pigment.
What if I have more questions?
