A great way to make some extra cash is to sell things you no longer need on eBay. I’ve sold a good share of things on eBay ranging from designer sunglasses to cameras. I don’t know how many times I’ve had someone ask me how to sell something on eBay or if I would do it for them. eBay is really simple and anyone can sell things through it. I put together a tutorial to help you see how easy it is to sell something on eBay. You can do it, I swear.
The first step is to decide what you’re going to sell. Look around your house and find things you haven’t used in a while. I’ll use a phone case.
One big thing you need to do before you list your item is to look up similar items to see how much they are selling for.
Next you can start to list your item. Create an account, if you haven’t already, and be sure to connect your PayPal account to it. This makes sure once a customer buys an item from you, the money automatically gets sent to your PayPal, where you can then transfer it to your bank account.
For the listing you need to be as descriptive as possible so people know what they are buying. The Title should also be descriptive, include key words. Since I’m selling an Otterbox, my title will be like this: Otterbox Case – Camouflage Orange for Samsung Galaxy s4.
A crucial part of selling an item anywhere is to have great pictures. Placing an item in front of a white and bright background will make the item stand out to buyers. Be sure to take at least 3 pictures of your item. Here are the pictures I used for my listing.
There are a few different ways you can price your item. Fixed Price and Auction are the choices. Under Fixed Price is Buy It Now and that is when you set a specific amount you want for your item. This ensures you get the amount you want. There is also an option called Best Offer and buyers can offer an amount they think is suitable for your item and you can accept or decline their offer.
Auction is when you set an amount low and people can bid on it. You may not get the exact amount you want out of an item this way, or you might get even more than you expected. You can set a reserve price on an auction which is the minimum amount you’re willing to sell your item for.
I prefer the Buy It Now option since I can choose the exact amount I want for an item I’m selling. For the phone case, I am going to list it as an auction starting at 9.99. I also put a Buy It Now price at 28.00.
Once you choose the price for your item, you can choose which kind of shipping you want to do. I usually do USPS Priority Mail since post offices offer free boxes for this shipping and it’s pretty cheap. Another cheap shipping option is media mail, you have to use your own boxes for this.
After you are done with the listing, adding pictures, setting a price and shipping, it’s time to submit! Click the review button so that you can see what your listing will look like to buyers and if everything looks good, submit. Once someone buys your item and submits payment (make sure you receive your payment through PayPal before sending anything!) you can them box up your item and ship it off.
It’s pretty easy to sell something on eBay and once you know the basics, you can sell anything. It’s exciting when your item sells and if it doesn’t sell, just relist it, it will sell eventually. And remember, you can do it!
