Valentine’s Day is known as a day where you go out to dinner on a date or receive flowers and chocolates. It’s the same every year and personally, I think it gets boring after a while. Do you really want to go out to dinner every single Valentine’s Day? It’s the same old song and dance. That’s why this year I’m mixing it up. Willie and I are going to do something different. What exactly? I don’t really know yet. But I’ve got a few ideas. If you want some new ideas, I’ve got some to share as well.
-Back Of A Pickup Truck Bonfire
The back of a pickup truck, known as the bed, can be turned into this wonderful and magical place. One random night around the time Will and I started dating, he took me out to this fishing spot we used to go and he had a bunch of firewood set up next to this river ready to be lit. In the back of his truck were tons of pillows and blankets. He lit the fire and spread out the pillows and blankets to make the bed of his truck look like a gigantic pillow. We cuddled up and just looked at the stars and talked for hours. I thought we were just going fishing but he had this whole romantic night planned. I had no idea. It was probably one of the best dates I’ve ever gone on and all we did was lay in the bed of his truck and talk.
-Visit A Park You’ve Never Been To
Parks are beautiful places to explore. If there’s a park near where you live that you’ve never been to, maybe it’s time to explore it. This can make for the perfect date. Willie and I recently explored a park I’ve never been to and we walked miles! There were so many cool trails and things to see. It’s so nice to just get outside and take a walk with someone you love. Bring some food and you’ve got a picnic. Perfect V-Day date.
-Drive and Stop Someplace Random
My Dad and his girlfriend took a trip a while ago. Where did they go, you ask? They didn’t know until they got there. It’s a cool idea really. They just got in their car and drove to wherever it took them. They ended up in Georgia in a historical little town where they stayed in a bed and breakfast. They made no reservations and had no plans. It’s really the perfect trip to take if you don’t know where you want to go. You get to know eachother better and have fun exploring new towns. Romantic? I think so.
-Blanket Fort and Take Out
You are NEVER too old to build a fort. For Valentine’s day, a blanket fort built around your TV makes for an awesome little hideaway where it’s like your own little theater. You can hang christmas lights inside too. Order takeout from your favorite restaurant and watch movies all night long. You’ll feel like you’re on vacation but you’re really just inside blankets in your living room or bedroom.
-Visit A Pier and Watch The Sunset
If you live near the ocean, or even a lake, you can go to a pier you haven’t been to in a while or have never been to and watch the sunset. This idea comes from a day my older brother skipped school to explore a pier, by himself. Usually when kids skip school they do it with friends and go to McDonald’s or to one of the kids houses. But no, my brother decided he wanted to go to the beach and walk around a pier and read all the little information signs about the birds and things like that. It was kind of hilarious when we found out what he did that day, usually he would just go home and sleep if he ever skipped school. So thanks to my brother, here’s a Valentine’s Day date idea. Go explore a pier and read all the information signs and watch the sunset. You never know what you can learn from those signs, I can tell you my brother has a big knowledge on sea turtles and flamingos now though, hahaha.
Whatever you do today, or next Valentine’s Day, just spend time with your significant other. Or anyone you love. Just being together will make for a good day. And if you don’t want to do the usual dinner and a movie date, try one of these ideas. You might even find a new tradition.
What are you doing for Valentine’s Day?
