I am always looking around my home and thinking, “what can I paint today?” Or wondering what I can do with an item to make it look new. Lamp shades are one of the easier things to change out in a home and they can make a big statement. You can paint them, cover them in fabric, or just buy a new one. They come in so many different prints and styles, but if you want to work with what you already have, then I have a simple DIY for you. I took a plain white lamp shade that I bought from Target and gave it a little paint to make it look completely different.
What you need:
• White lamp shade
• Black paint
• Sponge brush
Put the tape around the lamp shade where you want the white stripes to be. My tape is about an inch and a half thick. I put two stripes of tape on my lamp shade. After the tape is on, you can use your sponge brush to apply the paint. Sponge brushes can be found for a few cents at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Joann’s, Michael’s, and pretty much any craft store. The paint I used is Liquitex Basics, which can be found at Joann’s, Michael’s, or Hobby Lobby.
To paint, I dabbed the paint on first with the sponge brush then I brushed it horizontally to make the strokes go with the shade’s shape. After the paint has dried, peel the tape off. You can touch up any spots to make the stripes solid and straight.
This DIY lamp shade makeover is really easy and the perfect way to revamp your home decor.
