Christmas time is my favorite time of the year, of course. I love all of the Christmas movies, parties, and cookies. Although it almost never feels like Christmas in Florida, It’s still fun to celebrate it. This year we put up our Christmas tree on Black Friday. I love seeing all of my ornaments up on the tree. Each one has a memory tied up in it. Every year we like to buy at least one new ornament to add to our collection. I decided to make some new ornaments for our tradition this year. The idea of these snowmen just popped into my head as I way playing around with ideas of what I wanted to make. I have to say, I love the way they turned out!
The first step to this ornament DIY is to squirt some paint into the ornament. You can use any color you’d like. If you choose to use a glass ornament then you should use glass paint or enamel paint. Since I used plastic ornaments, I chose to just use some acrylic paint I had on hand.
I used a paintbrush to get the scalloped sides inside the ornament. Once you get the outline done, you can just pour some more paint in and tilt the ornament around within the outline. Using the paintbrush just makes it easier to guide the paint when your tilting it around.
Your ornament should look like this afterwards.
Next step is to make the snowman! Draw an outline of a snowman on construction paper with a small stem on it. Cut it out and draw some eyes, buttons, nose, mouth, and arms on it. You can add any other details you’d like. I think a hat would be cute.
To get the snowman inside of the ornament, you will have to bend it slightly. Do not completely fold it in half. You don’t want a crease. The snowman will straighten out once it is inside.
Close the tab of the ornament over the stem of the snowman to get it to stay upright in the ornament. Then all that is left to do is tie a bow around the tab with glitter ribbon.
