I have had my eye on this pair of mules from Charlotte Russe for many months now. I finally laid my hands on them and when I received them in the mail, I knew I wanted to give them a boost somehow with a little DIY. With the perforated holes, my mind immediately went to tassels. I knew I could tie some in and with my favorite color being blue, I knew I’d get wear out of them since half my wardrobe is blue.
This DIY is really very simple. It can just be a tad time consuming with the making of the tassels. Charlotte Russe only has one size left in stock online so if you’re an 8.5, jump on it! They are on sale right now too. BUT if you aren’t a size 8.5, JCPenney has the shoes in all other sizes available here.
- Embroidery Floss – Each roll can make about 2 tassels. I put 6 tassels on each shoe but you could easily fit 8 (I just ran out of string).
Make the tassels going off of the DIY tassel earrings tutorial but leave one of the pieces of string you tie around the top long.
Put the long piece of string on a tassel through one of the holes around the top of the shoe.
Put another tassel in the shoe about 2 holes away then knot the two pieces of string together, one from each tassel. Cut off the excess string. Repeat this for each set of two tassels. You’ll want to put an even number of tassels on each shoe so that you can tie them all together.
As you can see in the before and after, the color looks different but that’s just because the before picture was taken inside and the after was taken outside. The shoes look cute either way but the after is so much more customized! I think these shoes would be cute with mixed colors, maybe white and blue, or with all completely different colors! Any color(s) you choose will look great, which would you choose?
