I’ve tried many different beauty products over the years. I first started getting into makeup when I was in middle school. I would watch YouTube videos on makeup tutorials when it first became a thing and I would try to recreate the looks. I LOVED playing around with makeup because it allowed me to be creative! Nowadays, I don’t really wear much makeup but if I do, I stick to my beauty favorites. I would say I don’t wear as much as I used to because I have become more comfortable with my skin being makeup-free. I used to never go without -at least- concealer or foundation. I had some acne scars on my face which have pretty much gone away on their own, and still have very sensitive skin that turns red easily. I’ve been more comfortable in my skin finally and skipping makeup allows me to skip right to doing what I want to do each day. Plus, I love being able to just dunk my head underwater in the ocean freely without worrying about ruining my makeup.
Don’t get me wrong though, I do still love getting ready and doing a full face of makeup. It’s fun, plain and simple. Most days I just opt for a natural look though. Here are my current beauty favorites, complete with makeup, cleansers, and tools. I truly use all of these products and recommend each and every one of them. You can come over to my house right now and find them in my bathroom. None of this is sponsored either, I just really love this stuff.
Foundations + Concealers
I recently started using the Pixi Illuminating Tint + Conceal. It’s a tinted moisturizer with zinc (which is a must-have ingredient for sunscreen!) It’s also got a concealer on the tip so it’s a 2-in-1. Worth the price of $24 in my opinion. It’s lightweight and the perfect amount of coverage for days when you want just a bit of something to even out your skin tone. For days when I want more coverage, I turn to my favorite foundations from the L’Oreal Infallible line. I have tried all three foundations and love each in their own way! The Pro-Matte is probably my favorite because I have oily skin and it actually stays matte throughout the day, even without powder! It’s amazing. When I want a more dewy finish, I will opt for the Total Cover. Tip: Mix the Pro-Matte + the Total Cover for the BEST finish. It’s so pretty! The Pro-Glow does make you glow but maybe a bit too much. I’ve only worn this one when I have a fake tan because I have it in a pretty tan shade and I have to wear powder with it or I will look like an oily mess. To conceal, I’ve been using the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. It doesn’t really crease and it does the job. I’ve never found a concealer I’m head over heels in love with so if you have one that covers purple under-eye circles well, let me know! Whatever I’m wearing on my face, I use the Sephora #46 brush to blend it all in. I picked up that little tip from both Amber Fillerup and Cara Loren (two of my favorite bloggers).
Powder + Setting Sprays
My go-to powder for the past five years has been the Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder. I first purchased it because it was the absolute cheapest powder I could find. Cheap works for this product though because I have stuck with it and it never fails to let me down. I apply it (and always have) with the e.l.f. Kabuki Brush. I’ve recently been setting my face with the Supergoop Invincible Setting Powder. I was sent it to try out and fell in love. I use it everyday because it keeps my face from being oily and protects it from the sun. If I’m feeling extra frisky I might spray a bit of the MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ Finishing Mist. This stuff doesn’t really make a big difference to me but I like to think it locks my makeup into place. Throughout the day I do like to refresh with the Evian Spray. It doesn’t ruin my makeup and is the perfect thing to wake me up. I wrote a post on it if you want to read more.
Eyebrows, Eyeliners, Eyeshadows (& Mascara)
Eyebrows are Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Blonde applied with the e.l.f. Small Angled Brush, always. I have tried SO many eyebrow products and Anastasia is the one I always go back to. It’s the perfect color that’s not too yellow or orange like all the rest seem to be. I love the Brow Wiz too but it only usually lasts me a month while the pomade lasts for months. I have like zero eyebrows because I’m a natural blonde and I was just born with crappy eyebrows so I fill them in almost everyday. For eyeliner, I love ones that are like markers! The e.l.f. Waterproof Eyeliner Pen is a favorite as well as the NYC ones. They make the perfect winged looks. They all seem to be the same and are all cheap too! For eyeshadows I tend to stick to my two main palettes, Urban Decay Naked2 Basics and Naked3. The best blending brush is the MAC 286 brush. The only mascara I use is Maybelline’s Waterproof Falsies. It curls and elongates, what more could you need? I do always curl my lashes with an eyelash curler first though, I currently use this one.
I hate wearing lipsticks or lip glosses, is that so bad? Lol. I like to have moisturized lips and usually wear just a chapstick. I do really like this Supergoop product has a lip balm on it with a little mirror. The Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Pillow Plump is something I like to wear too, it’s tingly and fun.
I got a sample of the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm with an order from Sephora and I was so sad the day it was all used up. It works amazing to remove makeup plus it works with my sensitive skin. The ONLY product I will ever use to remove my eye makeup is the blue bottle of Almay Makeup Remover. You can get this stuff in your eyes and it will not burn unlike others I have tried. It gets waterproof mascara off like a champ too. Brushes get dirty too and it’s so very important to clean them so that you don’t put all that yucky old built-up makeup on your skin. I use Sonia Kashuk Brush & Sponge Cleanser or DIY my own. I thought I’d include my hair and body cleansers too since I have favorites that I like to stick to. OGX is a brand that is sulfate-free and doesn’t test on animals. It also doesn’t break me out. The Sea Mineral Moisture Shampoo and the Coconut Miracle Oil Body Wash (or the Sea Mineral Moisture Body Wash) are the ones I use.
