Love good music, delicious food, and beautiful scenery? Well Island Hopper Songwriter Fest is an event you won’t ever want to miss. Taking place in Southwest Florida, from Fort Myers to Sanibel featuring mostly country music. The fest is a 10 day long event traveling from Captiva to downtown Fort Myers to Fort Myers Beach. This years festival started on September 21 and ended on September 30. Next year’s fest will be September 20-29. The best part is almost all of the shows are completely free! There are a few shows that cost averaging about $35 but are worth it.
This fest is different than any other fest. Songwriters come and perform at a number of different restaurants and bars, some performing at the same time. With a number of different shows, you might be thinking “How do I know which to see?” WELL, Island Hopper thought of that. With the Island Hopper app you can see where and at what time who is playing. Then you can make your own schedule of shows you want to attend. It makes the fest super easy to navigate and figure out what to do.
Will and I attended during September 21st to 23rd in Captiva. Some of my favorite shows were seeing The Sweetheart Deal at Mucky Duck and attending the Late Night Jam at Doc Fords. We stayed at South Seas Island Resort in the Harbourside Hotel. I still can’t get over the view from our room balcony. The sunrises and sunsets were amazing.
A unique thing Island Hopper Songwriter Fest does is have shows in vacation rental homes. We attended one in a home on Captiva and saw Earl Bud Lee and Wynn Varble. Earl Bud Lee wrote songs Friends In Low Places and Wynn Varble wrote A Little More Country Than That. Blake Shelton, Easton Corbin, Kellie Pickler, and Garth Brooks are just a few singers who have benefited from songs written by these two men. The show was a private event with only about 30-40 people. There was plenty of drinks and food time to meet and talk with the songwriters. You get to here the stories behind the songs and it’s such a unique experience.
In between shows we enjoyed the island. There is so much to do in Captiva! You can rent golf carts or bikes, walk down Sunset Beach, golf at the course with ocean views, charter a boat, or just relax at all the 3 pools at South Seas.
Island Hopper Songwriter Fest is a fest you do not want to miss next year. It’s more relaxed and not so rushed so you can really enjoy yourself. There are a ton of shows and different performers to see. It’s a great way to try new restaurants and bars as well. It will be from September 20-29. I’ll be going again! Will I see you there?
