If you’re an avid hat-wearer, summer is probably your favorite time of year. The sun is at it’s hottest and shade can be essential. As a Florida native, I know shade can be your life saver if you forgot to put on sunscreen.
Shade can be hard to come by in some places but luckily we have hats! I’ve been collecting hats of all kinds over the years and I have some favorites. While most are straw (anyone else obsessed with straw?) I do have some other types I love!
In this summer hat guide, I’ve included all of my favorites and some similar styles to ones I own. All of these are perfect for those hot summer days when you need a little or a lotta shade!
2019 Summer Hat Guide
First up is my current favorite! This hat means some serious shady business. I love how much shade it provides, how comfortable it is, and that it actually fits! It comes with sizers so you can customize the fit.
- Braided Raffia
- 5″ Brim
- Tassel Detail
- Elasticized Coolmax Sweatband
I’ve been a long time fan of Lack of Color and I finally bit the bullet and purchased the Ivory Rancher Special when it was on sale a few months back. I love the sleek look and how it goes with pretty much any outfit or bikini.
- 100% soft Australian wool
- Spot / specialist clean
- Brim measures 10 cm / 3.95”
A good ‘ole visor is perfect for some shade on your face without getting hot on top. I love how visors give you airflow so that your head doesn’t sweat. Plus, straw visors are classics.
- Elastic Back
- Chevron Design
- Comes in 7 colors (including turquoise!)
Bucket hats have made a comeback and are very popular right now. While I don’t see myself jumping on the bandwagon anytime soon, if I had to get a bucket hat I’d get this one.
- 100% paper
- Spot clean only
Another visor that would be perfect for summer. The terry cloth is super soft and I’m digging this color! It’s also small and easy to pack for any tropical vacations.
- 100% polyester
- Hand wash
- Made of Soft Terry
My fiancé and I fight over who gets to wear this hat when we go to the beach or out on the boat. If you can get over the tourist-y look, this hat provides shade and will stay on your head since it has a drawcord. Or you can sling it around your neck if you have to go indoors.
- Wide brim
- Woven wave patch at front
- Drawcord and adjustable toggle
- 100% seagrass straw
This color screams sunshine! These fisherman caps are perfect for summer if you crave style in a hat. There are lots of different colors that Billabong offers too.
- Braided cord trim
- Logo button detail
- 100% polyester
This is one unique hat that combines the whole bucket/straw/striped trend. It’s got a little bit of everything and would look great with a white sun dress!
- Boat hat style
- Gross grain contrast band
- Metal logo badge
- 100% paper
If you want the visor feel but look of a wide brim hat, this one is for you. It’s got 5 star reviews and makes for the perfect go-to summer hat.
- 4″ brim. 22″ adjustable VELCRO interior circumference
- 75% Paper, 25% Polyester
- UPF 50+ Sun Protection
Lastly is this unique straw hat from Beach Access, a newer brand that cares about sustainability. It’s a win in my book.
- One size (34cm x 9cm)
- 100% natural straw – grown in Bali, Indonesia
- Hand-made with love in Bali, Indonesia
- Straw can be delicate, treat with love + care
And that’s all my top hat picks for the summer of 2019! If you are still stuck on what hat to buy this summer, some of my go-to places to buy hats are Billabong, Brixton, Lack of Color, Lulu’s, Free People, Tenth Street, and Urban Outfitters.
Stay cool this summer, my friends. It can get hella hot out there.
