We are engaged!
Before getting to how we got engaged, I thought I’d first start with how we met and came to be together.
Will and I first met at a funny little place called Redneck Yacht Club. It’s like a theme park for rednecks, complete with mudding, four wheeling, country concerts, camping, and a lot of drinking. I went with my best friend and her sister and friends. Will showed up later to join our group and with my best friend introducing us and an OSU Buckeyes sticker on his truck (we’re both Ohio fans), we became best friends. We remained friends after that and talked alllll the time.
Will and I started dating a few months later on August 4th, 2013, 5 years ago.
We have been living together for 4 years, have two dogs together, and have had so many great memories. Which leads us to our Oahu trip and our engagement story!
It was the third day into our trip and Will, my sister, and I decided to go hiking. The Crouching Lion hike was #1 on our list, the view looked amazing. So as we were packing up our backpacks to go, Will told me to bring along a pretty dress to shoot photos in while we were up there. Of course I agreed because, c’mon a pretty dress plus a pretty view? How can I say no.
We then hiked our way up the mountain, which was a lot more vertical than we thought, and made it to the top. We took in the view, shot some photos, and took in the view some more. I threw the dress on overtop of my hiking clothes. Will tried flying the drone to get some shots from above and had so much trouble getting it to connect. He almost threw it off the side of the cliff. When he finally did get it working, he set it up for a shot of the two of us and handed the controller and his phone off to my sister to take some photos (which is weird because he never wants to take photos with me but ok) and a video with the drone.
As we were standing there, he got down on one knee, said “Jennifer Nicole, will you marry me” or something like that, I can’t really remember what he said because I was so surprised and giddy. Of course I said yes and couldn’t stop laughing because I was so happy and surprised and in love.
He bought the exact ring I had mentioned I loved which made it even better, although I would have been happy with anything. If you know me, you know I love dainty jewelry and I’ve loved this one since I saw it. The ring isn’t what’s important, it’s the person you get to spend your life with anyways.
Then I took my dress off and we all hiked down the mountain. May 4th, 2018 was a pretty special day.
