The first thing to decide on once you get engaged is the date. It’s hard to pick a venue or schedule a photographer if you don’t know which date you plan to wed. You aren’t just going off your own schedule, you have to make sure all of your vendors are available. You have to choose a wedding date then you can move on to make and order your save the dates. How To Pick A Wedding Date
The most common way to pick a date is make it at least one year out. Then decide on which season you want. Keep in mind if you want a beach wedding, you will need to make it in a cooler month when it’s not too hot and not too cold. If you want an outdoors wedding, don’t pick a date in the rainy season.
Once you have the season decided, take a look at the holidays in that season. Unless you want your wedding to fall on a holiday, I would suggest making it at least a week out from any holiday so that if you do it in a destination location it won’t be too busy. For instance, good luck finding vendors and hotels in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, it just doesn’t make sense.
Next you want to decide on if you are going to have your wedding on a weekend day or during the week. It will be cheaper during the week but all your guests might not be able to come since most are off work on weekends. A Saturday wedding is most common but if you want to save a bit more money, choose a Friday or Sunday.
If you love odd or even numbers, pay attention to which numbers fall on which dates. This might sound weird but I loooove even numbers and did not want to have my wedding date be an odd day. In contrast, my best friend loves the odd numbers and got married on 1-7-17.
Whatever date you choose, it will be a special date for years to come. Don’t overthink it too much. Once you have the date figured out, you can ask your main vendors if they are available that date or if it’s a busy time of year for them. Also ask your photographer (if you really want a certain one) and the venue you have your eye on.
