DIY Farmhouse Table For Under $40

A farmhouse style table for under $40? Is it possible? The answer is yes. Don’t go and spend an arm and a leg on a brand new table from some retail store. Make your own! Simple as that. I have been longing for a light gray farmhouse table for a while now but figured it would be too hard or expensive to make. Until I came across these plans. It is the perfect sized table for us and exactly what I wanted. I’ve come to realize that we really don’t use our dining table for things other than storing miscellaneous items on and I want to change that. I did do a makeover to our first dining table but over time it has yellowed a bit and has gotten dinged up pretty bad from doing DIYs on it. So with a new table, we will be able to actually enjoy meals on something other than our laps in front of the TV.

On to the DIY!

Prep It

• (3) 2×4, stud length or 8′ length wood
• (2) 2×6, 8′ length wood
• (2) 2×2, 8′ length wood
• (12) 3″ wood screws
• (72) 2 1/2″ wood screws
• 120 grit sandpaper
• Drill
• Circular saw (unless you have Home Depot cut it for free like we did)

Cut It

• (4) 2×2 @ 33″ – Joists
• (6) 2×6 @ 32″ – Tabletop Boards
• (2) 2×4 @ 32″ – Side Aprons
• (2) 2×4 @29″ – Apron on Leg Sides
• (4) 2×4 @ 30″ – Legs

It helps to have someone hold down the wood while someone else drills. This way your table will be level and even. You want to make sure you get all level/even pieces as wood as well. No bowing!

This table is actually pretty darn easy to make. I could have done it myself, that’s how easy. It is very nice to have a handy boyfriend and helper brother though lol, they did a good amount of the building. I did the staining however. It’s actually about four different coats to get this beautiful grey weathered color and then a clear top coat. To see my video tutorial for the staining, click here!

To build this table, we spent a little under $40 on all of the supplies. That is a lot cheaper than it would have been to buy a table like this, which is ridiculous. I spent more on the chairs than I did on the table. If only I could build my own metal chairs, that would be the day, lol.
